🐾意思：to an extreme degree：very。

👣e.g. He is nothing if not persistent.

他十分执着。

我们通过真题看如何运用这个短语来解题

He was never (i) ＿＿＿ ; he was nothing if not (ii) ＿＿＿ ,so he forbore for the present to declare his passion.

💚思路：首先我们看到考点符号分号和考点词so，so在这里因果逻辑前后整体取同，从后面作为突破口so he forbore for the present to declare his passion 说明此人很谨慎。先做第二空，nothing if not 是极其的意思，所以二空应该体现谨慎，所以答案选择E。

然后根据分号并列前后取同，分号后说很谨慎，前面整体也是谨慎，有never否定词，第一空根据 never 得知选第二空的反义词，所以第一空 选B。

⭐参考译文：他从不鲁莽；他极其谨慎，因此他当下没有宣布他的热情。

🐾anything but=not，意为“一点也不，绝不”，表示否定。

👣e.g.  He is anything but ordinary. 

他一点也不平凡。

Although Emily Bronte is impassioned about gender equality, she is anything but ＿＿＿ to endorse more privileges endowed to women.

💚思路：由考点词although 推出，主从句取反，anything but的意思是“绝不是”，所以空格和impassioned取同，注意impassioned是“热情”的意思，正确答案选A。

⭐参考译文：尽管EB对于性别平等非常热情，但是她绝没有狂热地去支持更多给予女性的特权。

🐾nothing but等同于only，意为“只有，仅有”，不取反。

👣e.g.I want to do nothing but sleep all day long. 

除了学习，我整天什么都不想做=我只想睡觉。（双重否定表肯定）

🐾all but +adj.，此时，all but = almost。

👣e.g. This mission is all but impossible. 

这项任务几乎不可能完成。

🐾all but + n.，此时，but=except。

👣e.g. We have all but money. 

除了钱，我们拥有一切=我们没钱。

⭐参考译文：S在团队中的出现，是如此鼓舞其他人，以至于他们失去了之前的恐惧：对他们来说，失败是绝不可能的了。

🐾everything but这里的but等同于except。

所以，这里的everything but意为“除此之外”，其实也可以看做not。

👣e.g. I will eat everything but durian. 

除了榴莲之外，我什么都吃=我不吃榴莲。

💚思路：这个题目的重点就是考察for all的理解，for all = in spite of，表示让步取反关系。因此空格“less rosy”取反即可，择AB。

💡nothing but  负负得正，取同；
